The Mitsubishi Group (mitsu) is a loose entity made up of the former chaebol of Japan, with mitsu for "three" and bishi for "water chestnut".

The first mitsubishi corporation was Nagasaki shipyard, which was officially run by yitaro iwasaki in 1870. In 1873, the shipyard was renamed the mitsubishi chamber of commerce. Mitsubishi then moved into mining, shipbuilding, banking, insurance, warehousing and trading, followed by paper, steel, glass, electrical equipment, aircraft, oil and real estate. Now mitsubishi has built a string of businesses that have played a pivotal role in Japan's industrial modernization.

On the morning of June 1, 2016, three Chinese surviving labor representatives who were forcibly deported to Japan during world war ii signed an agreement with mitsubishi materials in Beijing to accept the apology and settle the dispute. [1] on November 15, 2018, mitsubishi motors filed for the recall of 92,042 Mirage vehicles (produced from October 2011 to July 2018) in five models including "Mirage" due to problems with the idling and quenching system. [2] in December 2018, world brand lab released the 2018 world brand top 500 list, and mitsubishi ranked 384th.
